Two shootings occurred over the weekend in Gainesville.
According to the Gainesville Police Department (GPD), officers were dispatched at 10:10 p.m. to the Sweetwater Square Apartments at 3101 NE 15th St. on Friday night after multiple calls concerning gunshots being fired in the area.
The investigation revealed several gunshots were fired from a vehicle. The incident is thought to be related to a large physical fight at Citizens Field.
On Sunday at 1:03 a.m., GPD officers responded to the 500 SW 2nd Ave area after receiving calls referencing four people shot.
Investigations indicate the victims and suspects know one another and were not local to the area.
After an altercation in the downtown parking garage, three victims left on foot and began walking when the suspects drove up in a vehicle and opened fire.
When police arrived at the scene, they found one victim in the SW Downtown Parking Garage with a gunshot wound, and three other victims located near 500 SW 2nd Avenue also suffered from gunshot wounds.
“Officers rendered aid with their trauma kits to stop the bleeding,” GPD Lt. Lisa Scott said in a phone interview. “EMS arrived quickly and transported the victims to the hospital.”
Scott confirmed that the victims sustained no life-threatening injuries and that they should recover fully.
Nearby vehicles had projectiles in them and were considered victims in the police reports because of the property damage.
The investigation is still ongoing, and no arrests have been made.
Anyone with information is asked to contact GPD Detectives at 352-393-7670 or can remain anonymous by reporting tips to the Alachua County Crime Stoppers. GPD urges neighbors to report all instances of gun violence and proposed violence observed on social media.
