GPD searches for two suspects involved in shootings near UF

Gainesville Police are searching for two suspects involved in two shootings that left two people injured early Friday morning.

According to a University of Florida Police Department (UFPD) release, the first incident occurred around 2:40 a.m. when Gainesville Police Department (GPD) officers responded to 1100 W. University Ave. and found one person suffering from a gunshot injury.

Additional shots were fired near 1200 SW 2nd Ave. around 2:55 a.m. where GPD officers located a second gunshot victim.

A foot pursuit toward the University of Florida campus near SW 13th Street where UFPD assisted GPD officers. According to the release, the two suspects possibly fled toward downtown Gainesville.

Even though the threat was not directed at the UF campus community, UFPD sent out a UF Alerts message cautioning anyone about the proximity of the shootings near UF. According to the release, no one from the UF community was injured or involved in the incident.

The UFPD increased its patrols on campus while the GPD continued to investigate the shootings.
