The High Springs Police Department (HSPD) has announced the apprehension of a man suspected of robbing a string of area pharmacies.

The High Springs robbery occurred in February 2023 at a local CVS store on Highway 441. According to HSPD, the suspect entered the business and implied that he was armed before demanding narcotics. He then fled on food to a small gray compact vehicle and drove away.

“During this period, Alachua and Clay Counties experienced several similar Drugstore robberies,” an HSPD press release said. “In response, the affected agencies, including the Alachua Police Department, Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, Gainesville Police Department, and Clay County Sheriff’s Office, collaborated by contrasting evidence and intelligence to apprehend the suspect(s).”

After an investigation that included assistance from the Florida Attorney General’s Office, HSPD arrested Jaquil C. Williams, 29, and charged him with armed robbery. He is now in the Alachua County Jail and also faces drug-related charges.

HSPD announced the arrest Friday but did not specify the date Williams was taken into custody.

“I am proud of how our agency investigated this case, and I am thankful for the collaboration and support from our law enforcement partners,” High Springs Police Chief Antoine Sheppard said in a statement. “A violent offender has been removed from our streets, and our community is safer due to those actions.”
