Juvenile found shot at Verdant Cove Apartments

A juvenile was discovered with gunshot wounds at Verdant Cove Apartments on Tuesday afternoon.

According to Gainesville Police Department (GPD) and Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) releases, the incident started at 3:18 p.m. when GPD officers were dispatched to the area of 2600 E. University Ave. near Fred Cone Park to the report of several gunshots. Officers located shell casings at the scene.

ACSO deputies were called to the Verdant Cove Apartments located at 4260 SE 10th Place a short time later to a report of a person shot. They discovered a juvenile with a gunshot wound and emergency responders transported the victim to the hospital.

Deputies also located a vehicle involved in the incident in a nearby area and ascertained that the juvenile victim was in the vehicle that was driven in the area where the shots were fired at 2600 E. University Ave.

An investigation revealed the victim was in a vehicle with other juveniles. When they drove through the area of 2600 E. University Ave., an unknown subject fired several shots at the vehicle, striking the victim, according to the GPD release.

Since the incident occurred inside the city of Gainesville, ACSO turned the investigation over to the GPD.

GPD detectives are investigating the shooting.
