A 16-year-old girl was found fatally shot Wednesday afternoon inside her Lake City apartment and a 17-year-old boy has been arrested on a charge of tampering with evidence.
According to a Columbia County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) release, deputies responded at approximately 4 p.m. on Wednesday to 4826 U.S. Highway 441 South, Apt.102, for a well-being check. After making several announcements, deputies entered the unlocked apartment and found a female lying on the floor who was deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.
The victim was identified as 16-year-old Ashia La Shai Moore, who resided in the apartment. Her family was notified shortly after deputies discovered her.
As the investigation continued, deputies developed 17-year-old Dominique Santonio Hill as a person of interest. Investigators interviewed Hill and subsequently arrested him on a charge of tampering with evidence. He was booked into the Columbia County Detention Facility without bond.
The investigation remains ongoing.
