A Lake City rapper who fled a traffic stop was arrested Friday after colliding with a vehicle at the intersection of NW 10th Avenue and NW 6th Street, killing one person and injuring three.
Eric Javah Baker, 21, was arrested – also known as music artist Raw Youngin, according to the arrest report – after he collided with a Dodge sedan after fleeing an attempted traffic stop. The collision killed the driver of the Dodge and seriously injured the three people riding in the Infiniti sedan that Baker was driving.
According to a Gainesville Police Department (GPD) release, officers conducted a traffic stop at 6:40 p.m. on the Infiniti sedan, that had numerous traffic violations, driven by Baker. The vehicle came to a stop, but when officers approached, the sedan fled at a high rate of speed. Officers did not pursue the Infiniti.
The sedan traveled westbound on NW 10th Avenue before colliding with the Dodge.
GPD officers and Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) deputies rendered aid to the injured people on scene while Baker fled on foot. Baker was eventually apprehended by a GPD K-9 team and ACSO deputies.
According to the Alachua County Jail website, Baker is being held without bail on charges of fleeing/eluding police, leaving a hit-and-run crash that involved a death, and leaving a hit-and-run crash that injured others.
