The Lake City Police Department (LCPD) is investigating a Sunday morning shooting that left one man in the hospital, but the department said the victim refuses to cooperate and give information about the circumstances.

According to a LCPD press release, officers arrived at HCA Florida Lake City Hospital after staff admitted a man who was suffering from a gunshot wound. Law enforcement arrived just before 2 a.m., and the man said he was shot while at a block party near NW Long Street and NW Virginia Terrace.

LCPD canvassed the area but found no evidence that the shooting had happened there. A witness said they had transported the victim to the hospital, but the press release said the statements made by the witness and the victim differed.

Attempts to get more information from the gunshot victim were unsuccessful, LCPD said, with the man refusing to cooperate, to press charges, or to describe the suspect.

LCPD will continue to look into the matter and ask anyone with information to come forward.

“Our officers are committed to thoroughly investigating every violent crime,” Lake City Police Chief Gerald Butler said in the release. “However, cooperation from victims is essential to holding offenders accountable and ensuring community safety. We encourage anyone with information regarding this incident to come forward.”

LCPD said it would continue investigating the incident and encourages anyone with information to contact LCPD at 386-752-4343. To report anonymously, contact the LCPD TIPS line at 886-719-2068 or Crime Stoppers of Columbia County at 386-754-7099.
