After speaking with the individual—Trevoreon Alphonso Mitchell, 19, of Lake City—officers attempted to conduct a pat down to search for weapons. Mitchell refused and began to resist officers, LCPD said. Once he was secured, officers discovered a Glock 9mm handgun in his front right pants pocket. During the investigation, officers also recovered a semi-automatic rifle and placed it in evidence.

LCPD spokesperson Greg Burnsed said in a phone interview that Mitchell did not have a permit for the handgun, which is why he was arrested.

Officers arrested Mitchell and charged him with carrying a concealed weapon and resisting officers without violence. He was transported to the Columbia County Detention Center.
