Lake City Police officers apprehended a suspect linked to multiple burglaries over the weekend.

According to a Lake City Police Department (LCPD) release, officers arrested Zacchaeus Omega Beverly, 27, of Lake City following various crimes.

On Friday, offices were dispatched at 4:45 a.m. to the Fire Breather Smoke Shop at 1051 E. Duval St. for a business burglary.

When they arrived, officers discovered the front glass door had been shattered and the burglary bars were removed. The business owner confirmed that more than $3,000 in merchandise was missing and the cost didn’t include the damage to the door and display cases.
After reviewing video surveillance from the business, officers identified Beverly as the suspect.

On Saturday at 8:18 a.m., officers were dispatched to SE Baya Drive for a vehicle burglary.

After the officers arrived, a witness provided a description of the suspect, his bicycle and the direction he was traveling. Officers located Beverly, who matched the description and was riding a bicycle, but Beverly eluded officers.

On Sunday at 11:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to SE Dade Street for a grand theft.

When they arrived, officers spoke to the victim, who personally knew Beverly, and allowed the suspect into his home to charge his phone. The victim left the living room to use the restroom and, when he returned to the living room, discovered Beverly going through his dresser drawers. The victim told Beverly to leave, but after the suspect left, the victim discovered missing items.

Officers, while patrolling the area, located Beverly and apprehended the suspect after a brief chase.

Beverly was arrested and transported to the Columbia County Detention Center.
