Lake City Police Department (LCPD) officers responded to four incidents over the weekend, including an attempted kidnapping that left a female victim hospitalized.

According to LCPD reports, on Saturday at 3:20 p.m., officers responded to SE Inglewood Avenue for a female suffering from abrasions to her lower body after being dragged on the road for nearly half a block.

The female victim had been allegedly socializing with a person on social media and invited the person to her residence to hang out on Saturday. The person arrived with three other people, but all four remained in the vehicle.

According to LCPD, when the victim approached the rear driver’s side of the vehicle, one of the vehicle’s occupants grabbed her by the upper arm and partially pulled her into the window while another passenger allegedly began striking her in the head, face and upper body with a closed fist. The driver then started accelerating, dragging the victim for nearly half a block before she was able to break free and fell to the ground from the moving vehicle.

First responders transported the victim to a local hospital and police are searching for the perpetrators.

LCPD also responded to three incidents of gunfire over the weekend.

On Sunday at 4:48 a.m., LCPD officers responded to NW Indiana Street to the report of gunfire. When they arrived, three victims stated that, while in the area of NW Alma Avenue and NW Jefferson Street, each of their vehicles were struck by gunfire. None of the victims could identify the shooter, LCPD reported.

While investigating the Sunday-morning incident, officers received another call of a person shot near NW Alachua Avenue and NW Franklin Street. Upon arrival, officers located a male who had been shot in the lower leg. The injured male stated he was allegedly in the NW Alma Avenue and NW Jefferson Street area when the gunfire started and it was not known how he reached his current location, according to LCPD.

First responders transported the injured victim to a local hospital.

Also on Sunday at 3:16 p.m., officers were dispatched to NE Sam Court to the report of gunfire, where they spoke to a victim who stated they observed the occupant of a grey vehicle shooting an orange vehicle also parked in the area. The victim’s vehicle was struck by stray bullets, LCPD reported.

On Saturday at 6:10 p.m., officers were dispatched to NE Martin Luther King Jr. Street where they spoke to two people who witnessed a fight start in a vacant field across the street before hearing gunfire. Officers located vehicles that were struck by bullets, but no one was injured. They collected bullet fragments and shell casings.
