Ocala Police Department officers arrested an Ocala man who shot and injured a person during a family gathering in Bronson on Sunday.
According to a Levy County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) release sent on Tuesday, the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) received a call from a Gainesville hospital emergency room about a victim who sustained a gunshot wound. ACSO contacted LCSO—who did not receive reports of the shooting through its 911 center—and LCSO dispatched deputies to the University Oaks subdivision in the Bronson area where the shooting occurred.
LCSO deputies and detectives learned that during a family gathering, Quyn Taras Barber, 33, of Ocala, got into an argument with the victim. Barber, armed with a handgun, drew the weapon and fired one round at the victim. A family member transported the victim to a Gainesville hospital and the victim is expected to recover from the injury, according to the release.
LCSO detectives obtained a warrant for Barber and the Ocala Police Department located him at an apartment building in Ocala where he was arrested and charged with aggravated battery with a firearm. Barber was booked at the Marion County Jail and is being held on a $450,000 bond and is expected to be transported to the Levy County Detention Center where he will be held pending a trial.   Â
