Point West shooting injures 1

A targeted shooting at Point West Apartments resulted in one victim suffering from a neck wound late Tuesday night, according to the Gainesville Police Department (GPD).

GPD officers responded to reports of shots fired and a man screaming for help at Point West around 11 p.m. Tuesday, according to a GPD report.

After arriving at the scene at 512 SW 34th Street, officers discovered a male victim in the parking lot who had been inside an apartment when he was struck in the neck by gunfire.

First responders transported the victim to UF Health Shands, where he was treated and released on Wednesday.

GPD stated this is an ongoing criminal investigation and believes this was a targeted shooting and an isolated incident.

The shooting comes one day after Alachua County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to gunfire at Harbor Cove Apartments on Monday afternoon that resulted in one person shot.
