A federal court indicted a 49-year-old Old Town man for trafficking methamphetamine.
According to a Northern District of Florida U.S. Attorney’s Office press release, Ronald Carl Peavy II was indicted for possessing with the intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine.
The arrest occurred on May 7 when a Dixie County Sheriff’s deputy initiated contact with Peavy, who was parked at the intersection near SE 218 Avenue and 920 Street in Old Town. Peavy was asleep in the driver’s seat, and the deputy established probable cause to search the vehicle, where he found nearly 500 grams of methamphetamine, approximately 80 grams of cannabis and $1,400 in cash.
Peavy was arrested on possession of meth with intent to sell/manufacture/deliver, possession of marijuana over 20 grams, trafficking methamphetamine 14 grams or over, selling marijuana, possession of drug equipment and driving while suspended/revoked.
Peavy is scheduled for arraignment before U.S. Magistrate Judge Midori A. Lowry at 2:15 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1, at the U.S. Courthouse in Gainesville. If convicted, Peavy faces up to life in prison.
The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Dixie County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Adam Hapner and James McCain.
