Suspect arrested for setting fire at Camelot Apartments

Gainesville police arrested a suspect who allegedly set fire to a mattress inside her apartment at Camelot Apartments on Tuesday night.

According to a Gainesville Police Department (GPD) release, officers arrested Jermaya Richardson, 32, and charged her with three counts of first-degree arson.

On Tuesday night, around 10:40 p.m., GPD officers responded with Gainesville Fire Rescue to a structure fire at 3425 SW 2nd Ave. (Camelot Apartments).

Firefighters contained the blaze and no injuries were reported. Following an investigation, it was discovered that Richardson had intentionally set fire to a mattress inside her apartment following an argument with her wife. The fire caused damage to the building, with estimated losses to exceed $200,000.

Richardson was arrested and transported to the Alachua County Jail.
