The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) and medical first responders arrived Thursday to the Tower Oaks neighborhood after a 911 call about an unresponsive two-year-old.
ACSO reported Sunday that the child died in the hospital from her injuries.
While on scene, deputies noticed bruising on the child and started an abuse investigation. Investigators placed the mother, 29-year-old Jessica Wilson, under arrest for aggravated child abuse. But after the child’s death, the charges were upgraded to second degree murder.
ACSO said the lead investigator briefed the command staff on the case.
“I hope that none of us ever have to experience a case like this again, but we chose this profession knowing there would be days like this,” the investigator said in the release.
