Update: GPD arrests Wawa shooting suspect

Update (4:02 p.m.): Gainesville Police Department detectives arrested Zamonte Hartsfield on Wednesday afternoon after he allegedly shot and killed a man on Tuesday night. 

Hartsfield, 21, will be charged with murder, attempted felony murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Two people were shot and one died at the East University Wawa gas station on Tuesday night.

According to a Gainesville Police Department (GPD) release, officers responded to 1007 East University Ave. around 9 p.m. where they found an unresponsive person with an apparent gunshot wound to the head.

First responders declared the victim deceased at the scene.

GPD detectives conducted interviews at the location and, during this time, a second victim arrived at UF Shands Hospital ER and, according to the release, was also shot at the Wawa location. The victim was later released from the hospital.
