A nearly two-month search for the Volvo XC-90 driver who hit and killed a bicyclist along S. Main Street in late November came to an end Wednesday.

According to a Gainesville Police Department (GPD) release, Margaret Caitlin Walker, 29, turned herself in and was arrested for DUI Manslaughter and Leaving the Scene of an Accident resulting in Death.

The hit-and-run occurred in the 3300 block of S. Main Street when a pedestrian discovered on the morning of Nov. 27 both the body of the victim and the damaged bicycle.

GPD released information on the vehicle and located the Volvo on Nov. 30. According to the release, when the vehicle was found and impounded, it was discovered that it was being driven by a co-worker of the suspect. GPD obtained subpoenas and warrants to solve the case through digital forensic evidence that provided geolocation data.

The information obtained confirmed a number of establishments where the suspect was drinking alcohol the night of the accident.
