A Wellborn man was arrested by Lake City police on Thursday for an alleged sexual offense involving a juvenile.

According to a Lake City Police Department (LCPD) release, officers arrested Cardale Johnson, 36, on charges of sexual assault by a suspect 24 or older on a victim 16-17, transmitting pornographic/obscene material to a minor, possession of depiction of child pornography and unlawful sexual acts with a minor.

LCPD officers were dispatched on July 24 to a residence on SE Pine Drive to the report of an alleged sexual offense that involved a juvenile.

Officers talked with the complainant who told them of finding alarming text messages on their teenager’s cell phone. The officers reviewed the texts and it revealed a romantic relationship between Johnson and the teenager.

Following an investigation by LCPD detectives, an arrest warrant was issued and Johnson was located and arrested. Johnson is being held at the Columbia County Detention Center on no bond.
