With the start of a new school year right around the corner, the state of Florida is offering families some relief when it comes to purchasing essential supplies.
Gov. Ron DeSantis recently announced the return of the state’s back-to-school sales tax holiday, which kicks off Friday.
But instead of having two weeks to do their shopping, families now have an entire month to save on school supplies, with the sales tax holiday continuing through Aug. 31.
The monthlong sales tax holiday will be a permanent staple every August thanks to House Bill (HB) 7031, which DeSantis signed into law in June.
For the next month, sales tax will be exempt on the following items.
School supplies being sold for $50 or less, including:
- Binders
- Notebooks
- Pens and pencils
- Lunch boxes
Clothing, footwear and apparel priced at $100 or less, including:
- Backpacks
- Pants
- Shoes
- Shirts
- Sweaters
Learning aids being sold for $30 or less, including:
- Interactive books
- Puzzles
- Flashcards
Personal computers and accessories with a price tag of $1,500 or less (for noncommercial or personal use), including:
- Laptops
- Flash drives
- Printers
- Headphones
