The annual Alachua County Public Schools’ (ACPS) Fifth Grade Field Day drew over 2,000 students to Citizens Field in Gainesville on Thursday.

The events included relay races, tug of war, bean bag toss, sack races and other activities.

According to an ACPS press release, “The annual event promotes the message that staying in shape can be fun. Students prepare for the event during physical education classes at school. The event also helps students celebrate the completion of elementary school.”

The field day was also a hands-on learning experience for some high school career-tech students, including students from the Academy of Future Teachers at Gainesville High School, who helped run the event. Students from the Academy of Criminal Justice at Newberry High School assisted with parking, water stations, traffic and security while being supervised by adult volunteers.
