Five P.K. Yonge Developmental Research School seniors were named 2027 National Merit Scholarship semifinalists, placing the students among the nation’s highest-achieving high school students.
The P.K. Yonge semifinalists are seniors Gabriel Castronovo, Ella Currin, Emma Currin, Hyle Ismail and Rohan Paranjpe.
The National Merit Scholarship Program recognizes students for academic achievement and performance on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, or PSAT/NMSQT. More than 16,000 students nationwide earn semifinalist status each year, representing less than 1% of U.S. high school seniors.
“P.K. Yonge is incredibly proud of these five students and the dedication they have shown throughout their academic careers,” said Dr. Ashley Pennypacker Hill, P.K. Yonge secondary principal, in a press release. “This recognition reflects not only their hard work and perseverance, but also the commitment of our teachers, families and school community to fostering academic excellence.”
As semifinalists, the students have the opportunity to advance in the National Merit Scholarship competition by meeting additional academic and application requirements. Finalists will be announced in the spring.
