To better connect with students, families, staff and the community, Alachua County Public Schools (ACPS) is preparing to introduce a variety of new communications tools this summer.

Two of those tools – new websites and a new messaging system – are set to launch on Monday, June 30, with current contracts for the district’s existing platforms expiring Tuesday, July 1.

According to an ACPS press release, websites for the district and every school will go live at 3:30 p.m. on Monday.

Once the transition is made, the district’s existing website will temporarily be unavailable for nearly an hour prior to the launch.

As part of the website revamp, the district will also be moving to a new website address, alachuaschools.net.

“The updated website will feature improved navigation and a more user-friendly design,” the release said. “The district has prioritized the most frequently-accessed features to ensure they are easier to find and use.”

According to the release, the district’s current website address of www.sbac.edu, will redirect users to the new address for the foreseeable future.

New Direct Messaging Platform

Also on Monday, ACPS will make the change to a new direct messaging platform, Apptegy Alert. The system replaces the district’s longstanding Skylert platform, which was used for sending emails, phone calls and text messages.

After Monday, district and phone messages will come from 352-955-7300 and emails from communication@alachuaschools.net

One upgrade with the new system is that families will no longer have to opt in to receive text messages, the release said. Parents and guardians will automatically be included, but can unsubscribe at any time.

An initial message will be sent from the short code 98900 on Monday. No response is needed.

The district will also be introducing a new communication software called Rooms. This tool will be the standard for teachers and staff in conversations with families, the release said.

ACPS App

Later this summer, ACPS will be launching a new app.

According to the release, “the app will offer families convenient access to emergency notifications, school and district events, school menus, and more.”

More information about the Rooms software and app will be shared with families as the launch dates approach.
