Families with incoming kindergarten students are invited to attend the annual Alachua County Public Schools (ACPS) Kindergarten Roundup on April 24 to become familiar with the school they will be attending in the fall.
According to an ACPS release, all elementary schools with kindergarten classes will open their doors at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24 to give children and their parents/guardians a chance to talk with teachers and staff and tour the school campus.
The first 2024—25 school day for students will be Monday, Aug. 12 at most schools. New year-round schedules at Metcalfe and Rawlings elementary schools for the 2024-25 school year will be in July. The final calendar for Metcalfe and Rawlings will likely be voted on at the next School Board of Alachua County meeting on April 16.
Children must be five years old on or before Sept. 1 to enroll in kindergarten, according to Florida law. Parents/guardians can start the online registration process for their incoming kindergarten students new to the district on April 24 by going to www.sbac.edu/enrollment.
Parents/guardians will need to provide their child’s zoned school by including two proofs of residence in the parent/guardian’s name, the child’s birth certificate and immunization records, and proof of a physical exam performed within the past year. Examples for proof of residence would include a lease agreement, utility bill, a property tax statement or other documents.
Schools will be open during the summer months to assist families with enrollment.
Any families who are unsure of what school their child will be attending can visit www.sbac.edu/enrollment or call the district’s Office of Student Assignment at (352) 955-7700.
