Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed Keith Perry to the Board of Governors of the State University System on Tuesday.
According to a release from the governor’s office, Perry, the president and owner of Perry Roofing Contractors in Gainesville, was one of six people appointed to the Florida Board of Governors. The Board governs the State University System, which comprises 12 universities and more than 430,000 students in Florida.
Perry previously served in the Florida Senate, where he represented Districts 8 and 9, and was a member of the Florida House of Representatives, representing Districts 21 and 22. He is a member of the Alachua County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and he also served as the president of House of Hope and the president of the Boys and Girls Club of Alachua County. Perry was one of four people appointed to the Board of Governors, which includeAshley Lukis, Michael Okaty and Nick Sinatra. DeSantis also reappointed Ashley Bell Barnett and Charles Lydecker.

How so? Keith Perry didn’t attend college or university. So what makes him qualified to be on an advisory board influencing how our tax dollars are spent at state universities? I know college isn’t for everyone, but in this case, wouldn’t it make sense to appoint someone with experience in higher education?
