“I am happy to be a sponsor to a team of students that love competing in math with a high level of commitment,” said Frazer School Principal Olanrewaju Fayig in a press release. “Conventionally students stay in clubs and teams because of the sponsor(s), but in my case, the team is the reason why I am still an educator and now trying to complete a doctorate program in education.

“Students in this program over the past decade saved and are still saving my education career. I respect their commitment to the goal of the team as they work tirelessly to improve themselves individually. I am happy to be serving this incredible group of students.”

The FAMAT is an organization that promotes scholarship in, and enjoyment and understanding of, mathematics among high school and two-year college students. The State Convention, which is the height of the FAMAT season, is held at the Rosen Plaza Hotel in Orlando.

“The tests were very hard this year and we initially thought we were not doing well, but as it turned out our kids handled these hard tests much better than the rest of the competitors,” said Frazer School assistant coach Ziwei Lu in a press release. “Their hard work and intense training paid off. They were prepared specifically to be able to handle the extra pressure and stress associated with hard tests.

“All 4 teams did what we needed and expected of them. We had some strong individuals who had off days, but their teammates rose to the occasion and covered for them. That is what great teammates do. They have each other’s back in tough situations. I am very proud of our team.”
