Hawthorne girls thrash Columbia; Eastside boys meet Santa Fe in a battle of undefeateds

Girls Basketball: Hawthorne 66, Columbia 40

Hawthorne football coach Cornelius Ingram took some time off from coaching the Hornets in next Thursday’s Class 1A state championship game, by coaching his Hawthorne girls basketball team to a big win on Wednesday night. 

The Lady Hornets defeated Class 6A Columbia (Lake City), 66-40.

Mya McGraw led the way with 20 points as Hawthorne improved to 3-0 on the season. Hawthorne will travel to Gainesville to play The Rock School on Tuesday. 

Columbia, which dropped to 4-2, will play at Oak Hall on Friday.

Boys Basketball: Santa Fe Raiders (3-0) at Eastside Rams (3-0)

Tonight the Eastside Rams boys basketball team will host the Santa Fe Raiders in a match-up of unbeaten teams. 

The Rams and Raiders are both 3-0. The visiting Raiders are led by Ernest Ross, a North Carolina State signee. The Rams are led Jarvil Gainey, last year’s Gainesville Sun Co-Player of the year.  It’s an early test in Class 4A-District 5.
