Students at Millhopper Montessori School in Gainesville recently participated in an interactive Model United Nations experience coordinated by Dr. Jennifer Forshee and Model UN delegates from the University of Florida.
During the program, seventh and eighth grade students took on the roles of country representatives working together to address global topics. Participants proposed solutions, engaged in discussions with classmates and voted on proposed resolutions.
Some topics prompted deeper conversation and debate between the students, providing insight into the complexities of global decision-making, while other resolutions were approved with little problem.
School officials said in a press release that the experience gave students a “meaningful opportunity to practice communication, collaboration and critical thinking while gaining a broader understanding of world perspectives.”
Millhopper Montessori School expressed its gratitude to Forshee and the UF delegates for their help in guiding the students through the program and dedicating time for “this memorable experience.”
