A team from Oak Hall School in Gainesville recently put together a successful performance at the Florida State Spanish Conference (FSSC), placing second overall in the 2A division and capping off what school leaders describe as one of the most successful seasons in the program’s history.

The event, which took place March 5-7 in Orlando, included 34 schools competing in academic and linguistic excellence, according to an Oak Hall press release.

Under the guidance of advisor Señora Krystal Serrano, the team from Oak Hall scored 920 out of 1,000 possible points in academic competitions – a 40-point improvement from the prior year, the release said.

Students at Oak Hall earned recognition across a wide range of disciplines. In Theatrical Arts, the 10-student play ensemble received a perfect score for their performance.

Meanwhile, in Poetry, all six student poets placed in the top-scoring category.

The speech category yielded similar results. All 16 Oak Hall competitors placed in the top two scoring categories, with 10 students achieving the highest ranking and five students earning perfect scores.

Beyond the academic events, Oak Hall also fared well in the Entertainment category, which included competition from more than 100 acts, the release said. Each of the school’s three entries – two musical performances and one dance – placed in the top three of their respective categories and were chosen to perform at the final banquet in front of all conference attendees.

“We are incredibly proud of our students’ hard work,” Serrano said in the release. “Even more important, they forged lasting bonds and memories that will last a lifetime.”
