North Florida schools announce closures ahead of Hurricane Helene

Area schools throughout the region will be closed due to the potential for Hurricane Helene to make landfall this week.

The following school districts have released information on which days they will be closed as the storm approaches.

Alachua County

Alachua County Public Schools announced Wednesday morning that schools will be closed on Thursday, Sept. 26, and Friday, Sept. 27. All extra-curricular activities will also be canceled.

Bradford County

Bradford County schools will be closed on Thursday, Sept. 26, and Friday, Sept. 27.

Columbia County

Columbia County schools will be closed on Thursday, Sept. 26, and Friday, Sept. 27.

Dixie County

Dixie County schools will be closed Wednesday, Sept. 25 through Friday, Sept. 27.

Gilchrist County

Gilchrist County schools will dismiss at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25th, and will be closed on Thursday, Sept. 26, and Friday, Sept. 27. All after-school activities are also canceled.

Levy County

Levy County schools will be closed Wednesday, Sept. 25, and Thursday, Sept. 26. All extracurricular activities are canceled for Thursday.

The school district will post updates about Friday’s schedule on social media.

Suwannee County

Suwannee County schools will be closed Thursday, Sept. 26, and Friday, Sept. 27. All after-school activities, including athletic events or practices, are also canceled.

Union County

Union County schools will be closed Wednesday, Sept. 26, through Friday, Sept. 27.
