Several high school basketball teams cancel games, suspend activities due to COVID-19-related issues

Last night’s P.K. Yonge at Trenton girls basketball game was canceled due to COVID-19-related issues. The two teams were originally scheduled to play on November 19th, but the game was postponed until Monday, Dec. 14.

It’s uncertain if the two teams will play against each other as Trenton coach Bryant Frye said the game would have to be made up in order for his team to travel to P.K. Yonge later this year.

This Friday’s Madison County at Columbia (Lake City) boys basketball game has been postponed. According to The Lake City Reporter, the Tigers have been quarantined for the foreseeable future after a Columbia player tested positive for Covid-19. Columbia lost at Suwannee 65-58 this past Saturday.

According to The Lake City Reporter, Suwannee has suspended all activities out of caution due to an abundance of contact tracing from the Suwannee Department of Health. Suwannee coach Malcolm Pollock said the program will resume activities on Dec. 28.

On Tuesday morning, the Columbia girls basketball team tweeted, “Out of abundance of caution due to health concerns we have decided to postpone all games until January 2021.  We thank you in advance for understanding our decision to place the safety of our players and fans first.”
