Trenton High School hosting Christmas Basketball tournament

Tomorrow afternoon, the Trenton High School basketball teams will host the Smith Asset Management Classic Christmas Tournament. Game one is Thursday afternoon at 3 p.m. as the Union County boys face Dixie County (Cross City) in game one of the tournament.  That will be followed by the Union County girls’ game against University Christian (Jacksonville) at 4:30 p.m. and the Newberry boys and University Christian at 6 p.m. 

The Trenton girls take on Hamilton County tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m., followed by the boys game against Trinity Catholic (Ocala) tomorrow night at 9.

“The SAMCO CLASSIC has been in inception since 2015,” said Trenton girls basketball coach Bryant Frye.  “Smith Asset Management Company (Shannon and Snuff Smith) has been the exclusive sponsor of this tournament.  Smith Asset Management has sponsored and support all the surrounding area schools and have been a great sponsor of Trenton Lady Tigers Basketball and the basketball programs as a whole.”

The three-day tournament concludes on Saturday with the varsity boys 3rd-place game at 3 p.m. and the girls 3rd-place game at 4:30 p.m.  The championship games will be on Saturday night.  The girls championship game is at 6 p.m., followed by the boys championship game at 7:30 p.m.

“The SAMCO Classic tournament has hosted a variety of schools from all over the state,” Frye said. “Teams that have participated are Tampa Freedom, Providence (Jacksonville), University Christian (Jacksonville), P.K. Yonge, Highlands Christian (GA) Orange Park, East River (Orlando), West Oaks Academy (Orlando), plus various local schools.  It is a fun and competitive tournament, and we are thankful for Smith Asset Management for continuing to be our exclusive sponsor.”
