“This decision was made to let you know just how much we value you and all the incredible things you do every day to move the university forward. From our classroom instructors and our researchers in the field to our grounds and maintenance workers, administrators and their assistants, health care professionals, custodial staff and more – each and every one of you plays a vital role in making UF the remarkable place that it is,” Bell said in the email.

UF last approved $25 million in faculty and staff pay raises in August 2023.

“While other colleges and universities are keeping salaries flat, laying people off or even closing their doors, the University of Florida is forging ahead to retain talent and recognize excellence,” Bell, who began his tenure as UF’s 14th president on July 1, said in the email.

Bell added his thanks to the UF Board of Trustees and Chairman Mori Hosseini for approving the raises. “[It’s] their tireless efforts in elevating the university and ensuring we have the resources we need to keep reaching ever greater heights,” he said.
