In a public notice email sent Wednesday night, the University of Florida Board of Trustees announced it will consider a proposal to raise out-of-state student fees by 10%.

If approved by the board at a special meeting on July 23, the fee increase would go into effect for the 2025 fall semester, according to the release. The proposal will not affect tuition or fees for in-state students.

“UF is seeking to increase out-of-state student fees to address rising operational costs and to ensure all students make an equitable contribution toward the world-class educational experience and services expected of Florida’s flagship institution,” the email stated.

The email adds that revenue made from the rise in fees “will be used to cover increasing costs of instruction and other operational costs incurred by the university in pursuit of our academic mission.”

It’s been more than 10 years since UF raised its out-of-state costs and, according to the email, “despite this proposal, the cost of attendance at UF will remain among the lowest in the country for out-of-state students.”

If the board were to approve the fee increase, out-of-state undergraduate students would see a price jump of $70.72 from the current $707.21 to $777.93, according to a fee breakdown provided in the email.

For out-of-state graduate students, that number would increase by just over $69 from the current $690.21 to $759.23.

Under this proposal, out-of-state UF students would also see a rise in their financial aid.

The board will meet at 11 a.m. on July 23. More information will be made available on the UF Board of Trustees website.
