Government offices, services set holiday schedules

Alachua County  

Other than emergency services, all Alachua County government offices will be closed on Dec. 26 and 27, and Jan. 2, in observance of the holidays.  

Curbside Waste Collection/Collection Centers

Due to the observance of the Christmas and New Year’s Day holidays on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, residential curbside collection service for solid waste, recycling and yard trash be delayed one day for the remainder of the week following each holiday.  

Holiday closures for Alachua County solid waste facilities: 

  • Administrative and Waste Collection Offices — closed Dec. 26-27, and Jan. 2.  
  • Rural Collection Centers — closed after 1 p.m. on Dec. 24, closed all day Dec. 26 and Jan. 2. 
  • Leveda Brown Environmental Park and Transfer Station — closed Dec. 26 and Jan. 2.   
  • Hazardous Waste Collection Center — closed Dec. 26 and Jan. 2.

Animal Resources  

Animal Resources will be closed at 2 p.m. on Dec. 24 and closed on Dec. 27. They will close at 2 p.m. Dec. 31. All other days, the offices will be open regular hours, which are 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday.  

Animal Resources Officers respond 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including holidays, to matters affecting public safety and animals in immediate danger. Citizens should dial 911 to report such emergencies on Sundays, holidays, and between 6 p.m. and 8 a.m. nightly.

Clerk of the Court 

The Office of the Clerk of the Court will be closed on Dec. 23 and 26, and Jan. 2. On all other days, offices will be open during regular hours. Visit the Clerk of the Court website for a list of services that are currently available online, drive-thru, or by appointment only.

Property Appraiser 

The Property Appraiser’s Office will be closed Dec. 26-27, and Jan. 2. All other days, offices will be open during regular hours.

Tax Collector  

The Tax Collector’s Office will be closed Dec. 26-27, and Jan. 2. On all other days, offices will be open during regular hours. Please be aware walk-in customers may face long wait times as those with appointments are served first. Visit the Tax Collector’s website to make an appointment.

Supervisor of Elections  

The Supervisor of Elections Office will be closed Dec. 26-27, and Jan. 2. All other days, offices will be open during regular hours.

Health Department  

The Health Department will be closed from Dec. 23-26 and Dec. 30- Jan. 2. All other days offices will be open regular hours. Hours vary depending on services needed.

City of Gainesville  

In observance of the Christmas and New Year’s Day holidays city offices will be closed Dec. 23 and 26, and Jan. 2.  

RTS bus service 

The Regional Transit System (RTS) is providing reduced service on Dec. 17-24, Dec. 26-31, and Jan. 1. Reduced service is indicated on RTS route time schedules with an “R” in the far right column under each route direction column section. The “R” indicates buses that continue to run during RTS reduced service days.
