GPD arrests Bank of America robbery suspect

Gainesville Police officers tracked down a suspect who allegedly attempted to rob a Bank of America on Tuesday morning.

According to a Gainesville Police Department (GPD) social media post, the suspect entered the Bank of America branch at 1116 W. University Ave. at 11:43 a.m., demanded cash and struck a person in the face.

GPD officers arrived on scene shortly after the crime and, with the help of bank employees and customers giving detailed descriptions of the suspect, set up a perimeter and located the suspect in the area of NW 12th Street and NW 3rd Avenue.

Officers arrested Timothy Derrinado Wims, 34, and charged him with attempted robbery of a bank, strong armed robbery of a customer, felony battery and attempted strong armed robbery of a customer. He was transported to the Alachua County Jail.

The bank customer hit in the face had a minor injury that required transport to a local hospital.
