Alachua County Animal Resources and Care (AR&C) will be hosting its annual “Summer Lovin’ Adopt-A-Thon” event on Saturday.

The event, sponsored by the Student Chapter of the Association of Shelter Veterinarians, will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Alachua County Animal Resources and Care headquarters (3400 N.E. 53rd Avenue) in Gainesville.

All adoption fees are waived for this free event, which will also feature music, food trucks, goody bags for adopters, giveaways, and more.

“Anybody looking for a new pet companion can surely find one during Alachua County Animal Resources and Care’s annual Summer Lovin’ Adoption event,” said AR&C Shelter Supervisor Faren Healey. “The goal is to clear the shelter.”

People adopting will be required to show their ID and proof of their current address. All animals adopted will be up to date on vaccines, microchipped, and spayed/neutered before leaving AR&C.

This summer, the AR&C Shelter has faced overcrowding that led to adoption fees being waived in June, turning away new take-ins, and enhancing the volunteer program.
