Gainesville is about an hour’s drive from the coast but that doesn’t mean that it has a lack of good seafood.  

These seafood restaurants get their seafood delivered fresh daily –mostly from the Florida coastlines—and serve everything from fish to scallops.

Cedar River has two locations—one in Lake City and the other in northwest Gainesville. The seafood joint serves up fish, crab legs, lobster. Specifically, platters that hold a combination of fish, shrimp, clam strips, scallops and deviled crab.

Northwest Seafood is a hybrid seafood shop and to-go restaurant. Fish is delivered fresh daily and locally sourced from Florida shores when available.  

The menu ranges from fish sandwiches, fish and shrimp platters, tacos to chowders and everyone in Gainesville raves about how delicious and fresh the seafood is.

Wahoo Seafood Grill 

Wahoo serves southern and Cajun inspired seafood and butchers’ fresh seafood on site daily. Patrons enjoy the signature boils that can include sausage, crawfish, shrimp, crab or lobster. Or enjoy the fried platter sampler which includes shrimp, scallops, oysters and fish.

A newcomer that opened in September of last year, FlatFish has been making waves in the Gainesville community. Many people rave about the new restaurant. It has a simple menu only serving a few items, but it does it well. FlatFish serves a traditional fried fish platter with the option of flounder, catfish, shrimp or, if you’re vegetarian, tempeh.  

The restaurant also offer po’boy sandwiches, which are served with shrimp or catfish.
