Alachua County and the City of Gainesville announced their Thanksgiving holiday schedules:
Alachua County:
Other than emergency services, all Alachua County government offices will be closed on Thursday and Friday (November 26, and November 27, 2020) in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.
Garbage and Recycling Collection:
The Thanksgiving holiday will not affect curbside residential solid waste and recycling collection services scheduled for Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday in the Alachua County curbside collection area. Thursday and Friday services will be delayed one day. For Thanksgiving week, Thursday’s collection will occur on Friday, and Friday’s collection will occur on Saturday. The regular collection schedule will resume on Monday, November 30.
The five Alachua County Rural Collection Centers and the Leveda Brown Environmental Park and Transfer Station will be closed on Thanksgiving Day. These facilities will reopen on Friday, November 27. The Hazardous Waste Collection Center will be closed on Thursday and Friday and will reopen on Saturday. The Office of Waste Collection will be closed beginning Thursday and will reopen on Monday, November 30.

Animal Services:
The Alachua County Animal Shelter (3400 N.E. 53rd Ave., Gainesville) will be closed Thursday and Friday, November 26 and 27. The shelter will reopen on Saturday, November 28, at 10:30 a.m. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, visiting the shelter is by appointment only.
Animal Services Officers respond 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including holidays, to matters affecting public safety and animals in immediate danger. Citizens should dial 911 to report such emergencies on Sundays, holidays, and between 6 p.m. and 8 a.m. nightly. During regular hours (Monday through Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., excluding holidays), Alachua County Animal Services can be reached at 352-264-6870.
Shelter hours are Tuesday through Saturday, from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (Call 352-264-6870 for appointments).

Gainesville
In observance of the Thanksgiving holiday, city offices will be closed Thursday, Nov. 26 and Friday, Nov. 27.
The Regional Transit System (RTS) will provide service as follows:
- Reduced service on Wednesday, Nov. 25 (reduced service is indicated on schedules with an “R” in the far right column under each route direction column section),
- No service on Thursday, Nov. 26
- Holiday service, which runs between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., to routes 1, 2, 5, 8, 10, 13, 15, 16, 20, 26, 35, 43, 75 and 711, on Friday, Nov. 27.
