Breaking Overnight: Gainesville Fire Rescue contains building fire at Archer Road Pizza Hut

At 11:43 pm last night, the Combined Communications Center of the Gainesville Fire Rescue received a 911 call about a building fire at 3515 SW Archer Rd (Pizza Hut). The caller advised there was smoke inside of the restaurant and flames coming from the roof.

GFR units Engine 2, Ladder truck 2, Engine 3, Engine 4, Ladder truck 9, Heavy Rescue Squad 1, District 1, District 2, and GFR Fire Investigator 231 responded. Alachua County Fire Rescue Engine 80, and Transport Rescue 80 also responded.

GFR Engine 2 arrived on the scene and reported smoke and flames visible from the roof of the building. GFR Ladder truck 9 entered the building, and completed a search and determined that all occupants were out of the building.

GFR (E2) quickly extinguished the fire from the roof within minutes of arriving on the scene. Multiple GFR units laddered the building, immediately stopping the fire from spreading and taking the whole building. There was a total of four engines two trucks, one squad, and one rescue vehicles, and two District Chiefs that responded to this call.

All occupants were accounted for, and there were no injuries reported.

Damage from the fire was contained to the roof. GFR District Chief Cary Williams made contact with the manager of the restaurant and advised that the restaurant will remain closed. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by GFR Fire Investigator Kelly DeRasmo.

 Gainesville Fire Rescue was founded in 1882 and is the primary provider of fire and emergency medical services for the approximate 63 square miles of Gainesville. GFR has 166 sworn firefighters and 8 support personnel. GFR operates out of nine fire stations that are strategically placed throughout the city to enable response within 5 minutes. GFR holds an Insurance Service Office (ISO) rating of 2 and is accredited by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI). GFR’s mission is the “Protect and serve through community involvement, education, prevention and rapid intervention by professionals committed to excellence.”
