Developing News: 112 inmates test positive for COVID-19 at Columbia Correctional Institution

The Florida Department of Health announced today that 112 inmates at the Columbia Correctional Institution (CCI) in Lake City tested positive for COVID-19. 
 
 “The Department of Health in Columbia County (DOH-Columbia) received notice of 112 new confirmed COVID-19 cases, all linked to the Florida Department of Corrections Columbia Correctional Institute,” the DOH-Columbia wrote in its statement. “These 112 new cases raise the total to 588 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Columbia County. DOH-Columbia is now conducting its contact investigation and working on identifying and notifying individuals who will need to self-monitor for symptoms for a 14-day period.”

According to statistics from the FDOH website, CCI currently has 12 inmates under security quarantine, 929 under medical quarantine, 273 under medical isolation, 802 tests pending, and 63 tests returned negative.

CCI is a level V facility that houses approximately 1,430 male adult inmates under minimum, medium, and closed custody.
