Developing Story: Gainesville Police Department looking for leads in Monday night shooting

Updated at 3pm: On July 13, 2020 at approximately 8:07PM, Gainesville Police Department officers responded to the Days Inn located at 1901 SW 13th Street to reports of gunshots being fired. Upon arrival, GPD officers found the victim, Kurry Jackson, DOB 03/01/83, shot inside his room. Mr. Jackson was transported to UF Health-SHANDS where he succumbed to his injuries.

The Gainesville Police Department responded to the Days Inn located the 1900 block of SW 13th Street last night to reports of gunshots being fired.

Upon arrival, GPD officers located a male victim that had been shot multiple times. The officers rendered immediate life saving aid until EMS personnel arrived.

The victim was transported to UF Health-SHANDS for medical treatment.

Further investigation indicated that a tall, slender, black male, wearing a black hat was seen shooting into the victim’s room from the outside and then fled to an area where multiple cars were parked. The suspect’s direction of travel is currently undetermined and detectives are investigating leads.

 Due to Marsy’s Law, the name and identification of the victim is not being released at this time.
