The Alachua County Democratic Party will host a series of public forums in July to introduce voters to Democratic candidates running for office in the Aug. 18 primary election.
The forums will feature candidates seeking election to Florida House District 21, the Alachua County Commission, the School Board of Alachua County and the Gainesville City Commission. All events are free and open to the public.
Organizers said the forums are designed to allow voters to hear directly from candidates and learn more about their positions before casting their ballots. Only Democratic candidates have been invited to participate.
The forum schedule includes:
Florida House District 21
Thursday, July 2, from 6-8 p.m.
Cotton Club Museum & Cultural Center
837 SE Seventh Ave., Gainesville
Alachua County Commission
Tuesday, July 7, from 6-8 p.m.
Freedom Community Center
7400 SW 41st Place, Gainesville
School Board of Alachua County
Saturday, July 11, from 2-4 p.m.
Headquarters Library
401 E. University Ave., Gainesville
Gainesville City Commission
Wednesday, July 15, from 6-8 p.m.
United Church of Gainesville
1624 NW Fifth Ave., Gainesville
“These forums are about giving voters a chance to meet the people asking for their vote,” said Tyler Foerst, chair of the Alachua County Democratic Party, in the press release. “You can follow them on social media, but there is nothing like meeting the candidates and hearing their answers for yourself. Come out, bring a neighbor and leave knowing more about who’s running to represent you.”
Voters can find additional information, including updates to dates and locations, at the Alachua County Democratic Party’s events page and through the organization’s social media channels.
The Alachua County Democratic Party works year-round to organize residents, support Democratic candidates and encourage citizen participation in local elections.
