Gainesville’s Development Review Board approved a major development plan last week for the construction of a new 220-unit multifamily building off Hull Road.
The development would be a four-story building with 754 rooms on just over seven acres. The project is already zoned for Transect Zone Urban 9, as are the surrounding parcels. Nearby, Varsity House of Gainesville also stands four stories tall, and Aloft Hotel is five stories.
The next steps for the development would be site and building permits.
The backup documents show the project is an infill development, a priority in the city’s comprehensive plan.
“Lastly, this multi-family development fulfills a market demand for housing in close proximity to the University of Florida,” the report says. “In doing so, it not only caters to the needs of the local community but also contributes to the expansion of the housing inventory within the city.”
The project won’t directly connect to SW 20th Avenue and will be directly behind the Pinnacle Point Apartments that front SW 20th Avenue.
More places that are so over priced that regular folks can’t even afford the application fees
This is Big Business. They don’t care about anything but ROI
Yeah. I can hardly wait to see how “affordable” the units are.
We don’t need MORE buildings.
We NEED affordable housing.
The real problem is Gainesville needs decent jobs beyond the University
There has been as hostile attitude by local government to real jobs over the last twenty years,
The governing philosophy is give handouts rather than enabling people to be self sufficient.
More, more, more UNAFFORDABLE housing! ENOUGH ALREADY!!! HOW ABOUT SOMETHINGS for FAMILY ENTERTAINMENT, Amusement parks???, OR WALKING TRAILS, THE LACK OF CREATIVITY IN GAINESVILLE CITY PLANNING IS ASTOUNDING, and BORING!!!
This road can’t anymore apartments its already congested with apartments and traffic is already terrible
Wow, look at that last piece of nature and green space….let’s bulldoze it! The destruction of nature in this town is criminal. Once it’s gone we can’t get it back.
