Officers from the Gainesville Police Department responded to the 4900 block of NW 20th Terrace this morning at approximately 3:55AM in reference to an armed robbery of a residence.
Two males, both with face coverings, armed with two handguns each, used forced entry to gain access to a home. Once inside, the suspects robbed the victims of cash. Afterwards the suspects fled. GPD detectives are following several leads in search of the suspects.
GPD continues to closely monitor and respond to the growing instances of shots fired, shootings, and armed robberies occurring in and around Gainesville. Once again, we want to ensure our neighbors that your City’s law enforcement officers are working daily at preventing these violent incidents from occurring. As noted in a press release on September 8, 2020, GPD enhanced its partnership with local and federal prosecutors as well as area law enforcement agencies in April 2019, in the combined effort to curb gun-related crimes by prosecuting known armed career criminals in federal court through the Gun Violence Initiative. As of today, over a dozen successful federal indictments have been levied during this timeframe and of those convicted, the sentences average over 10 years in a federal penitentiary.
GPD asks our neighbors to partner with us in stemming this growing tide of gun violence. If you see something, say something. Keep all of your weapons and ammunition in a safe and appropriate place. Lock your car doors and doors to your residence. And as always, if you see or hear something that concerns you, contact 911 as soon as possible.
