With extreme seasonal heat coupled with increased fuel costs, Gainesville Regional Utilities (GRU) announced on Wednesday it will wave late fees accrued between July and September.
In a press release, GRU made the decision due to the price jump on everything ranging from rent to groceries, adding that Florida utility customers have seen dramatic increases in electric bills due to high natural gas prices.
The fuel cost spike has coincided with the increase in hot summer temperatures and electricity usage when air conditioning is being used more.
“We are deeply concerned about the pressure this puts on customers and continue to look for solutions,” said Tony Cunningham, GRU’s interim general manager, in the release. “We hope waiving late fees through our hottest season helps alleviate some stress.”
Late fees will be waived through Sept. 30.

Will they halt disconnects too then for non payment?
