Incumbents take Newberry, Archer elections

Three local municipalities held elections Tuesday for three separate commission seats, with four other races featuring only one candidate.

In Newberry, incumbent Monty Farnsworth won the election by only three votes, according to unofficial results.

The City of Newberry reports Farsnworth received 258 votes, while challenger Mark Allen fell short with 255 votes. Another candidate, Walt Boyer, came in third with 91 votes.

The 504 votes cast represents an 11 percent voter turnout.

The two other Newberry seats up for election had no challengers, so incumbents Mark Clark and Rick Coleman will keep their seats.

In Archer, WCJB reported incumbent Kathy Penny received 84 percent of the vote with a total of 101 votes cast, defeating opponent Shaun Willis.

Ed Potts and Gregory Pelham Sr. also competed for the Commission 2 seat on the City of Alachua Commission. Potts won with 53 percent of the vote out of 1,340 ballots cast.
