Manual recount of Growth Management Area Charter Amendment rescheduled for Friday

The Alachua County Canvassing Board, working in consultation with Alachua County Emergency Management, has rescheduled the manual recount of the Alachua County Growth Management Area Charter Amendment referendum until Friday, Nov. 13, at 9 a.m.

If the county growth management area amendment is approved, any development within its boundaries would be exclusively governed by the county’s land development regulations, even if a parcel of land is later annexed into the boundaries of a city.

The recount — which is required since the amendment passed on Election Day with less than 0.5% margin between the yes and no votes, and a machine recount put the totals within 0.22%. Before the machine recount there were 64,327 yes votes (50.07%), and 64,152 no votes (49.93%).

The recount was originally scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 12. The decision was made because of the expected impact of Tropical Storm Eta.

The Alachua County Supervisor of Elections Office will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 12, and reopen Friday, Nov. 13.
