Mayor Marlowe announces first annual Newberry Christmas Lights Contest

Listen up, Christmas decorating fanatics, I am proud to announce the first annual Christmas Lights Contest!

Here is how it will work: over the next two weekends, I am going to load my children up, pack a thermos of hot cocoa, and drive around Newberry looking at Christmas lights.

Newberry Mayor Jordan Marlowe

I will judge your lights based on the smiles, ohs, and ahas of my kids. Before Christmas, I will announce the first ever recipient of the Mayor’s Award for Community excellence at Christmas, and you will receive a proclamation in honor of your Christmas spirit!

Mainstreet does not have a paywall, but pavement-pounding journalism is not free. Join your neighbors who make this vital work possible.

Christmas is special. It is a time we remember to love each other and think of others before ourselves. It is a time to spread joy in a world that desperately needs it!

The ones in our community, who go the extra mile to put smiles on the faces of our children, deserve to be recognized for the Christmas spirit they so generously share with us.

If you want to make sure your home is included, message me your address. If it is ok with you, I will include your house on a map that I will create, to share with the community so that everyone has the chance to see your spirit on display!

Alright Newberry, let’s love each other and remember the reason for the season! Merry Christmas, everyone, and good luck!
