OPEN POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office is currently seeking interested and qualified candidates for the position described below. As a condition of employment, employees are required to participate in the payroll direct deposit program. POSITION TITLE: DEPUTY SHERIFF
HOURS: Full-time, 12-hour shifts, weekends and holidays. 24-hour operation. May be called in for emergencies or to accommodate staffing requirements.
SALARY: Starting Salary: $26.4490 per hour. 1% a year – up to 10% above base salary for each full year of comparable qualifying experience at a mid to large size agency. Plus, educational incentive: $996 for Associates Degree, $2,004 for Bachelor’s Degree, $2,496 for Master Degree. Bi-weekly pay period.

DESCRIPTION: Responsible work of a general law enforcement nature with primary emphasis on the protection of life and property and the routine enforcement of federal, state, and local laws. Work involves an element of personal danger. Employees must be able to act effectively without direct supervision and to exercise discretion, caution, common sense, reasonable calmness, and self-control under adverse conditions while maintaining control of a particular situation or emergency.
TRAINING: Twenty-two (22) weeks of agency conducted field training covering operations, policies/procedures, proper wearing of uniform and equipment, duties of the position including vehicle operation, law enforcement techniques, and report writing. In-service training to maintain current FDLE/CJSTC Law Enforcement certification is also provided.
REQUIREMENTS: To submit an application:
- At least 21 years of age
- Good physical and mental condition
- High school diploma/GED
- Current FDLE/CJSTC Florida Law Enforcement certification
- Two (2) or more years of experience in a sworn law enforcement or certified corrections capacity at an agency in Florida. Must be in good standing/eligible for rehire. Will consider two (2) years of experience in a sworn federal or out-of-state sworn law enforcement or certified corrections capacity (provided you are in good standing/eligible for rehire and have completed EOT-eligibility requirements and re-certification in your discipline in Florida) or two (2) years relevant active-duty military experience (honorable discharge or eligible for same)
- Valid Florida driver’s license and a good driving record
- United States Citizen
- Must be of good moral character with no felony or misdemeanor convictions involving moral character or false statements
- No tattoos that depict violence, gang affiliation, illegal substance or activities
SELECTION: The most qualified applicants will be scheduled for an oral board interview with various representatives of the Sheriff’s Office. Selected applicants must successfully complete the requirements of a conditional employment offer and a pre-employment background investigation that includes a drug test, physical, physical agility and firearms course, polygraph and psychological evaluation
