                                                  OPEN POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

 

The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) is currently seeking interested and qualified candidates for the position described below. A complete, detailed job description for this position is available in the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office Human Resources Bureau.

 

POSITION TITLE:    DETENTION OFFICER RECRUIT – DEPARTMENT OF THE JAIL

 

HOURS:                      Full-time (typically 40 hours per week).

 

SALARY:                     Starting Salary $25.4808/hourly plus annual education incentive: Associate’s $636, Bachelor’s $1,044, Master’s $1,536 plus State Incentive for Career Development Courses up to $1,560. Bi-weekly pay period.

 

DESCRIPTION:         A training position involving attendance at a recognized Correctional academy for the express purpose of becoming an Alachua County Sheriff’s Office Detention Officer/Detention Deputy.  This position requires commitment, diligence and initiative.

 

BENEFITS:                  Detention Officer Recruits will wear a training uniform and safety equipment provided by the Sheriff’s Office. Florida State Retirement, Employer contributes up to 85% towards Health, Life and Dental Care. Deferred Compensation, Flexible Spending Programs, Tuition Reimbursement, 8 Hours/Month Annual Leave, 11 Paid Holidays, 8 hours quarterly Special Event leave, and up to 8 hours quarterly sick leave incentive.

 

REQUIREMENTS:    To submit an application:

  • High school diploma/GED
  • Current, valid Florida driver’s license
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Must pass all current ACSO testing and background processes
  • Must be willing to enter into an employee training agreement regarding length of ACSO employment
  • Must meet or exceed all applicable physical agility standards required by ACSO
  • Be of good moral character, have no felony convictions or misdemeanor convictions involving moral character, perjury or false statements
  • Must not have any tattoos that depict violence, gang affiliations, illegal substances or activities
  • Must meet Santa Fe College in-state tuition requirements

 

SELECTION:             The most qualified applicants will be scheduled for an oral board interview with various representatives of the Sheriff’s Office. Selected applicants must successfully complete the requirements of a conditional employment offer and background investigation that includes a polygraph, physical examination, drug screening, and psychological examination.
